APRINDO: Homeland Retail Market Still Wriggling

The retail industry is believed to still be writhing despite the great competition between stores and shops will. This was confirmed by the General Chairperson of the Indonesian Retailers Association (APRINDO), Roy N. Mandey when welcoming the inauguration of the 100th MR.DIY store, a retail equipment and household goods company in Pluit Village Mal, North Jakarta.

The opening of the MR.DIY store is believed Roy can contribute positively to the growth of the retail industry in the country. Roy said that Indonesia's modern retail market is still promising and wide open.

"This is supported by some data and facts, including a population of 260 million people but modern retail penetration is still low," he said.

Roy added, the penetration of modern retail in Indonesia has only reached 21 percent. This figure is far behind that of neighboring countries such as the Philippines (28 percent) and Malaysia (62 percent). Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) notes that household consumption expenditure accounts for 56 percent of 2018 Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

The key to survive, he said, retailers must be able to be innovative. "Retail businesses with interesting, creative and innovative concepts are certainly welcomed by the people of Indonesia," said Roy.

With the opening of the 100th MR.DIY store, consumers are expected to find a variety of quality products at very affordable prices to meet the needs of all their family members. In every MR.DIY store there are now 20 thousand types of products with 10 categories, namely utensils, household appliances, electrical equipment, car accessories, home furnishings, stationery and sports, and many more.

With these various types of products, family members can not only find answers to all their needs, but also get inspiration for the creation of unique ideas that can liven up their homes.

President Director of MR.DIY Indonesia D. Cyril Noerhadi said MR.DIY's journey in Indonesia began at the end of 2017 at Mega Bekasi Hypermall, West Java. Then continue to expand until the 30th store at AEON MALL BSD City and then the 50th store in Tunjungan Plaza, Surabaya. And the opening of the first store outside Java, namely in Medan and Manado in 2019.

"People need complete outlets and become the most complete shopping destination for modern families," concluded Cyril.
